Tension Over Mahama Leaflets

Tension is rising amongst supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), the largest opposition party, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a new party which was formed from the NDC, the National Democratic Party (NDP), over posters and leaflets circulating in the region that raise serious questions over the moral values and incorruptibility of President John Mahama.

The issue started at Nkawkaw when on Tuesday residents of Nkawkaw woke up to find the posters and leaflets splashed everywhere, with concentration on where campaign posters of the presidential candidates were. The leaflets are now also being circulated in the regional capital, Koforidua.

Supporters of NDC at Nkawkaw were said to have confronted the hierarchy of the NPP at Nkawkaw for being the source of the leaflets but the NPP denied any knowledge of it. Residents in these areas, especially followers of the major political parties, therefore wondered where the source of the leaflet could be but political pundits believed the leaflets could possibly be from the NDC or its breakaway NDP, considering the contents and how detailed some of the revelations were.

The leaflets, captioned ‘The John Dramani Mahama You Don’t Know’ with his picture, has 18 points of alleged negative traits of President Mahama that did not make him suitable for the high office of president.

On morality, the leaflet alleged that President Mahama was not only a womaniser but a chain-smoker who loved to smoke cannabis or marijuana

“John D. Mahama has 15 children with seven different women, smokes wee like chimney, drinks whisky like his Landcruiser V8,” it alleged. The leaflet tried to compare President Mahama with the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, with regard to womanising.

The leaflet alleged that President Mahama was caught red-handed ‘bonking’ or having sex with the Minister of Health, Alban Bagbin’s secretary and that the act was captured on a video via CCTV camera, pointing out that that was why there was a continuous rift between him and the president and why the Minister of Health did not respect the president.

The leaflet also accused the president of receiving $10 million from STX Korea, to build 200,000 houses for Ghanaians but the deal eventually collapsed. It further alleged that after the collapse of the STX deal, President Mahama conspired with the STX company to steal $260 million from Ghana as political risk, insisting that that money alone could build 260 first-class secondary schools for the country.

The leaflet also said President Mahama took $22 million from some Brazilians for an Embraer Jet and promised Air Minas Linhas Aereas air routes to Ghana.

The leaflet claimed that the president collected £5 million from Armajaro before asking COCOBOD to lift a ban on its operations in Ghana.

President Mahama, claimed the leaflet, also asked Merchant Bank to be sold to FirstRand bank in South Africa and the bank’s indebtedness to individuals including President Mahama’s brother, absorbed by SSNIT.

On properties, the leaflet accused President Mahama of having $55 million in an offshore account in the Republic Bank based in Trinidad and Tobago and also a mansion worth $3million in Dubai while his wife also had three mansions in USA, England and South Africa.

President Mahama was also accused of spiritually having a hand in the death of former President Mills, the reason why, the leaflet claimed, he could not stay at the Castle, for fear of also dying from the result of his action.

“President Mahama was an NPP mole, Francis Opoku’s star paid agent. He was the one who turned Mills against Rawlings. He will send the NDC into opposition,” the leaflet noted.
