Tema police warns public on stealing syndicate

Tema, Nov 7, GNA- The Tema Regional Police Command has called on the public to be wary of a syndicate involved in stealing and diverting rice and sugar from the Tema port.

A release issued by Mrs Agnes Sika Nartey, Tema Regional Police Commander, said the syndicate was conspiring with unscrupulous transport agents who hired vehicles with fake registration number plates. They load goods meant for the landlocked countries, Mali and Burkina Faso to other members of the syndicate who bought them at cheaper prices in Ghana without transporting them to their destinations, it said.

The release said the vehicle agents engaged drivers with fake driving licences.

The police, therefore, warned vehicle owners who entrusted their vehicles to unfamiliar drivers to be careful because they would be prosecuted when arrested.

The police however, gave the assurance that they are working around the clock to curtail the menace that is likely to derail the country's programme of Golden Age of Business.
