Tema imposes ban on drumming

Tema Manhean, April 24, GNA -- The Tema Traditional Council (TTC) has imposed a ban on drumming from April 21 for three weeks in the Tema Municipality.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Tema on Monday, Nii Adjei Kraku 11, Chief of Tema, asked the churches and residents to respect the ban in order to avoid any confrontation with the traditionalists. He said while social activities must be conducted without drumming, relatives of the dead are at liberty to bury the body on the quiet or wait until the ban is lifted on May 12. Nii Kraku explained that after the Kpledzo festival the gods need some quiet time to rest and perform certain rituals towards their Homowo festival that takes off in August. Elders of the Council performed rituals at the Sakomo Lagoon off the Accra-Tema beach road signifying the beginning of the ban.
