Fifteen suspected criminals have been arrested from their hideouts in Community 1 and 9 as well as Site 2 and 5 in Tema in the Greater Accra Region.

Large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were seized in the intelligence-led operation by the Tema Regional Police Command. Two bottles of locally brewed gin laced with suspected Indian hemp were also found on the suspects.

Other items including electronic home appliances, 4 gas cylinders, 4 shovels, two laptops, and assorted mobile phones said to be stolen items were retrieved from the suspects.

Meanwhile, the substances have been forwarded to the crime forensic laboratory for examination.

The Police say the suspects will be screened and investigations conducted after which those found culpable of crimes will be processed for court.

The Tema Regional Police PRO, DSP Joseph Benefo Darkwah said the Police in collaboration with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly have been using drones to identify criminal hideouts and fish them out.

“Once we launch our drone and capture the images for us, we analyse and move in. It is something we will do it every three days or weekly,” he said.

He said they will take it Ashaiman, Ada, Prampram, Dodowa, and its environs.

DSP Darkwah said some telephone numbers written on the sacks of suspected Indian hemp will be helpful in investigation the sources of the substances.
