Tema Motorway to be lighted

The Tema Motorway is to be provided with lights by December, this year, at a total cost of ?19.5 billion as part of projects to be commissioned in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Tema township.

Mr Kofi Mensah Demitia, Acting Managing Director of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) disclosed these at Tema at a meeting with Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and department heads of some selected companies in Tema. The meeting was to solicit support of the companies in planning towards the jubilee celebrations to ensure fuller participation of all stakeholders in Tema. The theme for the anniversary is “Tema 50 years of a planned city in the center of the world.”

Mr Demitia noted that the time was due to implement the second phase of Tema “by re-engineering, repackaging and re-launching the city on the world market in order to reap the full benefits of its unique location.” He implored CEOs and department heads to work hard at making Tema an investor-friendly and tourist attraction city.

Other projects to be executed are the siting of a world centre on the model of the Trafalgar Square or Eifel Tower behind the former Meridian Hotel, he disclosed. There would also be sculptures on the motorway, GTP, light industrial area, Mankoadze and harbour roundabouts.
