Tema Mayor finally opens up on abandoned New Tema General Hospital Mortuary

The ultramodern morgue of Tema General Hospital will soon scale up operation as authorities work earnestly to complete the facility for operations to begin, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La has revealed.

The Tema Mayor has finally declared his stance on the controversially abandoned morgue at the hospital saying that, his vision is to have a healthy city for national development and not otherwise.

He made this known in an interview with host DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa. According to him, the completion of the morgue is one of his top agendas for the city.

Mr Anang-La said, after visiting the facility, he found out that, the pathologists were not allowed to contribute to the building and this resulted in a lot of mistakes. However, he said, a contract has been awarded for the completion and installation of equipment at the morgue. “I have visited the place several times with my technical team. In a meeting with the hospital authorities, the pathologists revealed that they were not allowed to make inputs. Because of that, there were lots of mistakes. They showed us which areas to break and change the design. We relied on that and awarded the contract to a company to look into and work on it. We also awarded the installation of equipment to the company, not only that; including some petty construction to change the design of some the areas.” He said.

Hon. Anang-La added that, even though the contractor is not on site for work due to some financial issues, the assembly is working to resolve the issue. “As at now, the contractor has not come to the site due to some few issues we’re resolving here. It has to do with financials but we are seriously on it and we don’t want to leave this facility idle like a white elephant. We are on course and we are doing something, it has delayed but that doesn’t mean that it will not be done.” Hon. Anang-La added.

The Tema Mayor noted that the old mortuary at the hospital will be fixed when there is damage until the Assembly gets some funds to completely renovate and change the morgue.
