Tema Helicopter Crash: Parents demand purification before sending wards back to school

The tragic helicopter crash that claimed two lives at Tema Community One, near a school on Monday, March 16, 2026, has led to the temporary closure of the facility, as parents and teachers call for spiritual intervention before academic activities resume.

The incident, which occurred close to the school premises, has left many parents shaken, with some refusing to send their children back until what they describe as “purification” rites are carried out.

The aftermath of the crash appears to have deeply unsettled the school community, with both parents and teachers expressing fears and anxieties over the situation.

Speaking to the media in a video shared by JoyNews on March 18, 2026, one concerned parent explained that the tragic nature of the incident has heightened fears among families.

“We are really scared about the two people who died. The incident is frightening and we are scared to bring our kids back to the school and so we are hoping the crash site is purified by authorities to allow our kids back to school,” the parent said in Twi.

A teacher who witnessed the incident also recounted the emotional toll it has taken on both staff and students, stressing the need for both spiritual and psychological support before classes can resume.

“We don’t know the exact time we are coming [back to the school] because we need to receive a response from the director on when to resume and for them to also purify the place for the students.

“We don’t know what the deceased victims will do. We the grown-ups may not see them but the kids will be haunted. We need to pray for the kids and we the teachers need to be assessed psychologically,” the teacher said.

Meanwhile, the crash site has been cleared of debris following the incident, as investigations into the cause of the crash continues.
