Donation of the first ventilator machine by Tema Lube Oil Company Limited to the Tema General Hospital has brought joy to patients and workers of the health facility.
Several persons were reported to have died as a result of unavailability of the lifesaving machine which cost the oil producing company in Tema an amount of GHc110, 000.
Dr Francis Caicoo, head of Surgical Department at the Tema General Hospital, speaking with DAILY GUIDE, said most of the patients who have been referred to other health facilities as a result of the unavailability of the ventilator die before arrival.
He explained that the ventilator helps patients to breathe during surgery, adding that the machine would provide more in-depth care for patients who will call at the facility.
The head of surgical department appealed to the public and other corporate institutions to donate more of such ventilators to help save lives.
Amos Donkoh, managing director of Tema Lube Oil, disclosed that donation formed part of the celebration of their 25th anniversary to support the health facility.
As part of their corporate social responsibility, he added that the company has been supporting most healthcare centres in Tema with the donation of ambulance and medical equipment, hence this donation.
