Telephone Lines Of CEPS At Tema Disconnected

Ghana Telecom is reported to have last Friday, disconnected all the Telephone lines of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service, CEPS at Tema for non-payment of bills.

According to sources, the bills have accumulated to millions of Cedis because, the Controller and Accountant-General's Department which was supposed to pay the bills had not been paying regularly. Briefing newsmen, the Assistant Commissioner in charge of Collection, Mr. Fredua-Agyeman Boakye said the disconnection has seriously crippled the work of the Service at the Tema Port.

Mr. Boakye, however could not tell how much CEPS owes the Ghana Telecom but said there was only one main line operating, making it impossible for the Tema Office to communicate internally and externally to cross check on information given by importers.
