A 19-year-old teenager, Charles Jacob, has met his untimely death after a Hyundai Accent saloon car run over him at Kwamenakrom in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.
The deceased, was with his colleague Felix Peter, 21, when the incident happened but he (Felix Peter), survived.
An eyewitness told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that on Monday, July 9, 2019, at about 2030 hours, an unidentified driver was in charge of a Hyundai Accent saloon car with registration number GC 5828-Z, attempted to overtake another vehicle at Kwamenakrom.
In the process, the driver was alleged to be speeding and was unable to overtook the leading vehicle and rammed into the deceased and Felix who were then offloading bags of cement from a Man Diesel truck with registration number GE-1936-Y.
According to the eyewitness, the suspected driver quickly sped off after the crash and some helpful witnesses who were annoyed, pursued him and he abandoned his vehicle and bolted.
The two sustained injuries and were rushed to the Ghana Manganese Company (GMC) hospital at Nsuta Wassaw for treatment but Charles was pronounced dead on arrival while Felix is still on admission at the same health facility.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Apinto Government hospital for a necropsy.
The Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) Division in Tarkwa has towed the vehicle from the accident scene.
They have also commenced an investigation into the accident to help them apprehend the suspected driver who is now at large.
