Teachers reject GH¢200 license fee

Teachers have kicked against the increment of the annual license fee from GH

Some teachers across the country have kicked against a GH¢200 fee for the acquisition of Teacher Professional License.

Every two years, it is expected of the teachers to pay GH¢100 for a renewal of their license.

Upon several meetings, three Teacher Unions have asked their members not to pay for the license until they agree on a reasonable amount with the National Teaching Council.

The President for the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), said series of meetings have been held on the exact amount to paid for the Teacher Professional Licence exams.

According to him, the teachers in service have gone through the Teachers Professional Licence exams.

“These are issues we have sat on with the National Teaching Council to come out with a figure. Till the board decides on the exact amount, no teacher will pay a pesewa” he said.

The NTC says it will be opened or further deliberation on the possible review of the fees.

Executive Secretary of the National Teacher Council, Christian Addae Poku said a negotiation will be held to aid development in the teaching field.

“NTC is ready to speak to the Teacher Unions. They are the most important people in the situation. Since they are issues raising up in the teaching field, it will be resolved by the Council. All issues will be discussed, we will make sure the license will be accessible to everyone to improve the professionalism of teachers. The teaching profession must be the leading profession across Ghana” she stated.
