Teachers likely to receive single spine salary in January

Accra, Jan. 7, GNA - Mr George Smith-Graham, Chief Executive Officer= of Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), on Friday said teachers and other workers with the Ghana Education Service (GES) were likely to be migrated o to the Single Spine Salary Structure this month.

He said a team of experts in Accra was working vigorously to ensure GE= S workers were migrated onto the SSSS before the Controller and Accountant General's Department (CAGD) completed preparing salary payments.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra, Mr Smith-Graham said 10 other public sector institutions including the GNA, would be put on the SSSS this month barring any hitches with their mappings= .. He explained that the main concern of the Commission was to migrate teachers onto the SSSS this month, 93=85but in case the experts are not ab= le to complete their exercise before salaries are paid this month, they would surely receive their new salaries in February." Mr Smith-Graham said workers from the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Civil Service were expected to receive their single spine salaries by March during which about 90 per cent of public institutions might be migrated onto the SSSS. He said so far about 21 public sector institutions had migrated and expressed the hope that the entire exercise would be completed by April thi= s year. Mr Smith-Graham said payments under SSSS would begin from January 2010 and assured workers that 93The Commission would endeavour to ensure worker= s were treated fairly."
