Hohoe, Nov. 6, GNA - About 109 Diploma in Education Teachers in Hohoe Municipality on Wednesday staged a peaceful demonstration to demand rationalization of their salaries and payment of 15 months salary arrears due them by November 15.
In a four point resolution presented to the Hohoe Municipal Director of Education, the teachers who graduated in 2007 requested that all monies collected from them to process and correct the anomaly be refunded without delay.
They appealed to Director General of Education to institute a probe into the matter to forestall future reoccurrence and resolved to embark on an industrial action if their demands were not addressed by November 15.
Mr Paa Quecy Edu, Spokesman for the aggrieved teachers said they had been receiving an allowance of 70 Ghana cedis since they were employed and that had made them paupers. He alleged that their counterparts in other districts were being paid their salaries, which had been upgraded. Ms Juliet Kumah, Hohoe Municipal Director of Education during a meeting with the teachers apologized for their predicament and pledged to act swiftly on the issue.
She promised to follow up to the GES in Accra on the Integrated Personal Payroll Data (IPPD) to fast track the process. Ms Kumah assured them that the issue would be investigated.
