Domeabra (Ash), Feb. 20, GNA - Mr. Joseph Ababio Frimpong, the Headteacher of the Domeabra District Assembly Primary School, has appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to curb the rate at which teachers posted to the school abandon their posts. He said this was affecting academic work and also forcing children to drop out of school.
"As I am speaking with you now, a majority of pupils in basic two, three and four have almost sacrificed their education for farming because there are no teachers to teach them", Mr. Frimpong told newsmen on Thursday.
He said six teachers who were posted to the area by the GES last year had all abandoned their posts even though they had been provided with accommodation and other incentives by the Domeabra community. The community has been forced to engage volunteer teachers to help improve the situation and expressed the hope that the GES would act on the petition sent by the school directorate in respect of the situation. Mr. Asare Bediako of the Amansie West District Directorate of Education said most teachers who refused to accept postings to the school or abandon their posts did so as a result of the challenging socio-economic conditions in the town.
