Teacher jailed for impregnating JHS student

The Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Frederick Tetteh, has sentenced a teacher from Bompata in the Asante Akyem South, Daniel Asiedu, to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling and impregnating a 14-year-old form two junior secondary school student of a private school at Asante Akyem Asankare, also in the Ashanti Region.

Narrating the facts of the case to the court, the prosecutor, Police Sergeant Princeton Piase Darkwa, said five months ago, the convict seized the victim’s books and asked her to collect them in his house.

According to him, when the girl arrived in the convict’s house to collect her books, he locked her up and forcibly had sex with her. The teacher, after the act, warned the girl not to disclose her ordeal to anyone.

The victim kept the incident to herself till her parents noticed some changes in her body. Upon interrogation, she narrated the incident and mentioned Asiedu as the culprit.

A report was, therefore, made to the police, who issued a medical form to the victim for examination at the hospital.

The test revealed that the victim was five months pregnant.

The convict confessed to defiling the teenager in his statement, but pleaded for leniency. The court, however, slapped an 18-year jail term on him.

Meanwhile, the Juaso District Police Commander DSP Latibu Siaw, has said rape, defilement and incest are on the increase in the district, and, therefore, appealed to opinion leaders and parents to help check the menace.
