A 30 year-old taxi driver from Ahobre Number Two near Half-Assini in Western Region has been convicted on his own plea by Half-Assini Magistrate Court on traffic offences.

The Court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Illiasu, however deferred sentence to Friday to enable Police trace his Car owner who authorized him to drive the vehicle without licence.

Mr Kwasi Tawiah, was charged on two counts of careless & inconsiderate driving and driving without licence, and he pleaded guilty on both counts and was remanded into Police custody until Friday.

Prosecuting Police Corporal Richard Amoah, said about 1830 hours on Monday August 31, the convict was driving a Fiat Merea Taxi Cab with Registration number WR 2278-12 which was following a Nissan Navara Pick-up with registration number GP 3549 driven by the Complainant, from Ekpu towards Half-Assini.

The Prosecutor said on reaching Akenya Egyanebo, a commercial area in the town, the convict overtook the Police Vehicle without due attention to other road users and in the process nearly collided head-long with a vehicle from the opposite direction driven by an official of the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI).

He said the convict was subsequently arrested and taken to the Half-Assini Police Station, where it was revealed that he had no licence.

He was subsequently charged with the offence and put before the Court after investigations.
