Tarkwa Circuit Court jails student for stealing Samsung tv

A Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced Samuel Woode, a 19 year-old student of Heaven-way Preparatory Junior High School in Tarkwa, to 12 months imprisonment for stealing a 42 inched Samsung plasma television.

Woode pleaded guilty to the offense.

Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on May 17, the care taker of Trinity restaurant in Tarkwa reported to work and found out that the television had been stolen and reported the matter to the police.

Inspector Amponsah said on that same day at about 1830 hours, the police officer on duty at the Bonsaso police barrier in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality intercepted the offender and a friend conveying the stolen item on a Nissan Almera cab towards Takoradi.

He said when the officer suspecting something must be wrong, interrogated the convict on how the television set came into his possession, he quickly escaped with his friend and left behind the stolen item and the taxi driver.

Inspector Amponsah said on May 23 the convict and his friend were arrested at the Tarkwa Railway station.

Inspector Amponsah said during interrogation, the convict admitted the offense and stated that he used screw driver to open the back door of the kitchen attached to the restaurant and had access to the hall where he made away with the flat screen plasma television.

The judge in his ruling ordered that the television set should be handed over to the owner.**
