Tamale Teaching Hospital to be completed in December 2012

Tamale, Nov. 30, GNA - Mr Hans Artz, Project Director of Simed International, the contractor working on the Tamale Teaching Hospital, has said the rehabilitation and refurbishment of the hospital, which started in May, would be completed in December 2012. He said the first phase of the project, which is the construction of a new structure for the hospital, would be completed in November 2011 while the rehabilitation would start on the exiting structure and would be completed in December 2012. Mr. Artz said this on Tuesday when Mr. Moses Bukari Mabengba, the Northern Regional Minister, visited the hospital to inspect the rehabilitation and to find out the challenges facing the contractor. He said the company was facing problems in the supply of water and power to the project site and called for urgent steps to be taken to address them.

Mr Artz appealed to the government to breach some protocol procedures to be able to address the problems adding that "The project may delay if water and power supply problems were not addressed". Mr. Mabengba expressed gratitude about the work done so far on the project. He said he would liaise with the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing and the Ministry of Energy to ensure that the water and power problems were addressed. Dr. David Akolibilla, the Acting Chief Executive of the hospital, said the hospital had acquired accreditation from the accreditation board to train medical students of the University for Development Studies (UDS) in gynecology. 30 Nov 10
