Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to launch sanitation day

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) is set to launch the National Sanitation Day as part of efforts to promote environmental health and public well-being in the metropolis.

The initiative, which formed part of the nationwide “Clean Up Ghana” agenda, spearheaded by President John Dramani Mahama’s administration and re-launched on September 06, 2025, seeks to instill a culture of cleanliness and shared responsibility among citizens.

This was contained in a statement issued by TaMA, signed by Mr Amadu Mustapha Zakari, its Public Relations Officer, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale.

The statement said Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, was expected to lead the inaugural clean-up exercise at the Central Business District (CBD), which would serve as the ceremonial event to kick-start the initiative.

It said the clean-up exercise would be held every first Saturday of the month across the entire metropolis.

It directed all shops to remain closed, and a halt in commercial activities between 0700 hours and 12 noon on the day of the exercise.

“Residents, households, and businesses are urged to clean their immediate surroundings to ensure maximum participation and impact,” the statement directed.

The statement said, “Security personnel will be deployed across the metropolis to monitor compliance and ensure smooth and effective exercise.”

It called on all residents to embrace the initiative and make it a lasting habit for the collective good of the area.
