Tamale Mayor bemoans declining fortunes of BECE candidates

The Mayor of Tamale, Alhaji Abdul-Hanan Rahman Gundadow has bemoaned the declining fortunes of candidates sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Tamale metropolis.

According to him, over the years there have been dwindling performance of pupils in the district league table of the Ghana Education service which does not auger well for the educational sector.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Tamale Sub-Metropolitan District Council and Unit Committee, Alhaji Abdul-Hanan Gundadow said a number of efforts are been put in place to ensure they arrest the declining fortunes of the BECE candidates.

He therefore urges parents, unit committee members, chiefs and opinion leaders to support the teachers and officials of Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure that the children are educated.

Alhaji Abdul-Hanan Gundadow said considering the educational infrastructure in the metropolitan area, there was no justification for pupils to fail BECE. He however acknowledged that the las district table that was release the metropolis notice some appreciable improvement in terms of the ranking.

He charged parents to send their wards to school and ensure the successfully complete.

This he believes is critical for Tamale's continues development. The mayor also revealed that Kakpagyili, suburb of the Tamale metropolis will also be benefiting from the community day Senior High School.




YEA engages over 3,811 youth in Northern region

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has so far recruited over three thousand, eight hundred and eleven (3,811) in the Northern region in five models of the agency.

The models includes Community Health Worker, 2,600, Community Police Assistants, 570; Prison Assistants, 200; Coastal and Water Bodies Sanitation, 200; and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) model, 241.

Speaking to the media in Tamale, Northern regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Tanko Rashid Computer hinted that the Arabic Instructors model will soon be rolled out since government is interested in pushing the agenda of Arabic schools.

He also revealed that the agency is also in the process of starting the Community Education Teaching Assistant (CETA) model, Afforestation model, Paid internship model, Water Bodies Protection model and Paid Industrial Support model of the agency.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency in-charge of operations, Luke Ayamga Atazona assured former employees of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) that their "exit fund" will be paid since the money is sitting in the accounts.

He said the payment mechanisms that the fund managers are proposing is so complex. Luke Atazona wondered why the money was taken seamlessly and now becoming coming an issue and charge them to make the payment automatic.

According to him, the agency's Board of directors of YEA are looking into the matter but however denied that the matter is in court.

He therefore assured Ghanaians that YEAP will not repeat the past mistakes of GYEEDA saying that steps are being taken to ensure that it discharge its mandate effectively.




Gbumayili family urges govt to fast track prosecution of suspected killers of Bimbilla Chief

The Gbumayili family of Nanung in the Numba North district has urged government and other stakeholders as a matter of urgency, fast track the prosecution of the five people being charged for conspiracy and murder of the late overlord of Nanung traditional area, Naa AndaniDasana II.
They are also appealing to government to pursue all persons whose names were mentioned in connection with the murder in other to give justice to the family of the late Overlord of Nanung. Five persons where allegedly charged for the murder of the late Bimbilla Naa on 19th June, 2014.
They five are Bawa Adam Gunta, Shahadu Abubakari, YakubuIbrahim, Mohammed Issah and Adam Rabiu.
Addressing a gathering in Bimbilla, the Regent of Bimbilla and acting President of Nanumba Traditional Council, Nyeliboligu NaaYakubu Andani Dasana call on all well-meaning Nanumbas to rally behind the family in this difficult time to ensure the perpetrators of that dastardly act are brought to book and also ensure the perpetrators and their families do not in any way benefit from the act to serve as a lesson to others with similar motive.
"We are yet to know clearly what is being done from the Police perspective about the Killers and those security personnel who were detailed as those on duty on the faithful 19/06/2014. It will also help consolidate the efforts that government is putting into maintaining of peace across the country".

The Regent however commended government for its commitment in ensuring peace and security in Bimbilla and its environs since the untimely demise of the late chief. He also extended gratitude to government for the continuous support to him since his installation as the Regent Bimbilla and acting President of Nanumba Traditional Council.

He also appealed to Nanumbas far and near to leave the past behind them and let Nanung start a new course in promoting peace, Unity and Development.
"I want to also appeal to every true blood of the kingdom both educated and non-educated that are at home and far to champion our crusade for a new Nanung, the ones our forefathers left for us and not the ones we have succeeded in creating with our selfishness. Let's build the youth with a sense of positivity, make them focus on what will put food on the table and develop the kingdom" he appealed.
