as Independent Candidate takes over Constituency.
The Parliamentary aspiration in the next Parliament for the Member of Parliament for Tamale central has been crashed by an emerging force in the constituency, Hon Inusah Fuseini has been faced with a superior challenge from an Independent candidate who once was a financer of the NDC in the Region. The candidate, Mr. Aminu Mobila, has officially announced his interest by splashing his posters in town and is engaging in a face to face interaction with opinion leaders, youth groups, market woman and all those who matter in the day to day political activities in the region.
In an exclusive interview with the TIDE newspaper, Mr Aminu indicated that, his interest to contest the seat was born out of the crayoned call he had had from various Youth groups within the NDC to contest the seat as they were unwilling to vote for the incumbent MP.
He disclosed that Education is the key to eradicating extreme poverty in the constituency, Critical thinking skills, social accountability, and financial independence all stem from education. “I am committed to making sure that all children of school going age have access to at least primary level education, the Metropolitan Assembly, Office of the Member of Parliament and all stakeholders have an obligation, through reasonable measures, to progressively make education available and accessible to all children in the constituency†he believed.
“My interest is not to amass wealth for myself and my family but to seek the wealth fare of my constituent who will be sending me to parliament to create equal opportunities for all†Aminu said. According to him, in the course of his rounds he sees lots of potentials especially in the Youth of the constituency, but for the limited opportunities, the youth finds themselves in a very poor situations that needs a politician with a political will to create the much needed opportunities for them to grow.
“I am going to use both my local and international contacts when voted as the MP to create equal opportunities for market woman and the youth within the constituency and beyond to get lucrative employment to enable them take care of themselves and their families as well†Mr Aminu disclosed.
His priority is to reduce poverty significantly in the constituency in his first term of office, by implementing an MP Fund that will be exclusively channelled to a Poverty Reduction Fund managed by a non-partisan board. The fund according to him will be dedicated to financing small scale projects for women and youth groups in the constituency. A disbursement criterion will be formulated and publicly available to enhance transparency.
“I would seek to strengthen the already considerable abilities of the youth by empowering them to overcome the barriers that prevent them from reaching their full potential. I will work directly with young groups as well as local community based organisations, NGOs and other development players to deliver this strategy†Aminu told this paper.
The son of Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila, one of the founding Fathers of the NDC in the Northern Region and a very influential individual in Dagbon, Mr Aminu commands lots of admiration among the youth of the party and the elderly for his generosity and entrepreneurial skills that has created jobs for a considerably number of people in the constituency. The posters of Mr. Aminu Mobila has since been the talk of town especially when it was rumored that he was not going to contest the incumbent MP but when the reverse happened, many welcomed it leading to a rash for his posters that has since send shaves to the Camp of Hon Inusah Fuseini, the incumbent MP.
Various groups that have had the opportunity of meeting Mr. Aminu have cast a slur on Hon Inusah Fuseini, accusing him of failing on his campaign promise and lacking the creative skills to create opportunities for market woman and the youth especially, leading to a mass call for his removal since their earlier call on delegates not to re-elect him failed.
“We were going to vote for President Mills and vote the NPP candidate because our MP has failed us, all he promised during his campaign have failed but thank God we now have somebody within our Political party who is out to save the situation†a youth leader told this paper. The popularity of Mr. Aminu cuts across all sectors of the constituency, his candidature as an independent parliamentary aspirant according to many politically observers in the region is going to be the biggest threat to the incumbent member of parliament, especially when his message to the people has to do with job creation, seeking justice and the creation of equally opportunities for all within the constituency which has since been embraced by almost all the groups in the constituency.
“My campaign will not dwell on what happened in the past. Instead, our focus would be on now and the future and on defining a model on which a coherent and rigorous agenda would be formulated for the way forward. Our energies would be spent on moving forward; towards finding the answers. We should endeavour to move from pettiness and plain rhetoric and concentrate on what will create wealth and prosperity†he said.
He concluded by saying that “In seeking to serve my people I will not like to be followed forever. I do not intend to keep a pool of followers who will forever be at the base. I intend to deliver on a model of partnership that recognises the potential of every person. There will be a time when I will become a follower, and then other young people take charge. We can do this firmly believing that wisdom & skills do not reside in only one personâ€.
