Tamale Chief Executive On Lessons Of June Four

Accra, 4 June Alhaji A.Y.M.B. Ibrahimah, Tamale Municipal Chief Executive, said last night that one of the lessons of the June Four uprising is that leaders should take measures that ensure the full development of the country. "Otherwise, one day we shall be called to answer where it is possible that we could be made to pay the highest price for it", he said at the last of the two-day June Four lectures organised by the June Four Movement in Accra. The lecture which was under the theme "the significance of June Four in 40 years of Ghana's Independence", was attended by large sections of the military, security services and civilians. Alhaji Ibrahimah who spoke on ''And they chanted: let the blood flow'', said leaders should also learn from President Jerry John Rawlings and be as far-sighted enough during crises so as not to do anything that would lead to the dismemberment of the country. Col J. Y. A. Kabore (rtd), who recounted his personal experience at the hands of the leaders of the uprising, said their excesses was evidence of their frustration at the break-down of morale and discipline in the army before June four, 1979. He said the success of coups depends on popular support and the June Four coup was just that.
