Tamale Business Centre Takes Measures To Curtail Prostitution

Tamale,(Northern Region) 10 Oct. The Tamale business advisory centre (BAC) has embarked on a series of training workshops to curtail the high incidence of unwanted pregnancies, migration of girls to urban centres and prostitution in the municipality. Mr George Anim, Northern Regional Head of the BAC, said this at the close of a three-day entrepreneurship awareness seminar for 29 students of Tamale Jolisa Fashion School today. He called for the creation of more private small scale industries to absorb the high number of unemployed youth and school drop-outs who loiter in the urban centres in search of non-existent jobs. Mr Anim said the workshops are aimed at motivating trainees to consider self-employment as an alternative to wage employment after their training. He advised the participants who are mainly dressmakers to offer unique products and services that can compete with others to compel customers to patronise their products. Mrs Wilhemina Aklakum, director of Tamale Picorma Hotel who was the guest speaker, advised the participants to be prepared to take risk if they hope to develop their enterprises. Mrs Mariama Achel, regional president of the Ghana association of business enterprises who chaired the function, said with the necessary support and guidance the private sector will be capable of addressing and easing the unemployment problems facing the country. She called on the national board for small scale industries to give the necessary support to newly established small scale industries by negotiating for finance for them to improve their services. Among topics discussed at the workshop were characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, business opportunity identification and selection, resource mobilisation for launching of enterprises and essential steps for launching an enterprise.
