Tamale Assembly undertakes cleanup exercise

Tamale, Feb. 6, GNA - The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly in collaboration with the Progressive Traders Association, Dress Makers Association, Zoomlion and Alhaji Ayana of Dalun Enterprise on Thursday undertook a massive three hour cleanup exercise of the Metropolis. They swept and cleared rubbish in the central and Aboabo markets and some streets of Tamale.

Mr Mohammed Baba, Tamale Metropolitan Coordinating Director said the Assembly had earlier on undertaken a similar cleanup exercises on 24 January and would do same on the 14 of this month, which is valentine day. He said the exercises were in response to Presidents Mills call to make the country clean within the first hundred days of his assumption to office.

He said the assembly in consultation with other environmental groups would chose a particular Saturday to be declared a general cleanup day for the Metropolis, during which all residents would be expected to clean their surroundings. Mr Baba said sanitation was a very expensive business and government alone could not bear the cost and therefore appealed to corporate bodies and the banks, to assist the Assembly with funds and other logistics to regularly undertake the cleanup exercise. He said the various associations that assisted the assembly in the cleanup exercise had borne part of the cost for the exercise and commended them for it.
