It has emerged that the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) will occupy the number one position on the ballot paper for the upcoming bye- elections in Talensi in the Upper East region slated for Tuesday, July 7, 2015.
In a statement issued to the media yesterday in Accra after the balloting by the Electoral Commission (EC), the PPP expressed delight in its position on the ballot.
Describing its position as a good omen, the statement claimed that it was an indication of victory for the party.
“This is an indication of good luck which will culminate into a win for the party,” the statement said.
To this end, it called on the party to support its candidate from now till the day of the election in his campaign to ensure victory.
The statement mentioned Mr. Joseph Toatoba as the PPP’s parliamentary candidate for the July 7, bye-election.
A graduate of University for Development Studies, the statement said, “Mr. Toatoba is a teacher and a professional banker.
He is an effective communicator with excellent leadership capabilities. He is very influential and charismatic. He is the type of leader the constituency has been denied for years,” it stated.
According to the statement, the constituents have faith in him and for that matter the party can be assured of victory.
It would be recalled that the Talensi seat became vacant after the then Member of Parliament (MP), Robert Nachinab Doameng Mosore, stepped down.
This followed his enskinment as the Paramount Chief of Tongo in the Upper East region a month ago.
And per the country's laws, a chief is not supposed to take part in active partisan politics, hence the need for the bye-elections.
