The Takoradi Air Force Base has held a moving candlelight vigil in honour of three crew members who lost their lives in the tragic Z9 helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
The fallen heroes, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, all served at the Takoradi Air Force Base.
The solemn ceremony brought together military leaders, personnel, and grieving families, including the wife of the late Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu. The evening was marked by flickering candles, soft reflective music, and moments of deep silence, all in tribute to the crew’s courage and selfless service to the nation.
Speaking at the vigil, Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi, Commander of the Takoradi Air Force Base, praised the officers for their dedication and sacrifice. He encouraged his men and women to remain committed to their duty of safeguarding Ghana’s skies.

Other officers also shared emotional tributes, describing the vigil as both a farewell and a promise to keep their memories alive. They lit candles not only as symbols of remembrance but also as beacons of courage and resilience, while offering prayers for the fallen and comfort to their families.
