The Municipal Chief Executive for Sagnarigu, Hon Iddrisu Mariam has advised motorist and road users to take road signs and traffic regulations serious to avoid needless accidents on the roads.

According to her, most of the carnage on our roads is as a result of negligence and carelessness from road users, adding that, respecting road signs can save more lives on the roads.

She urged the youth to wear a crash helmet and obey traffic regulations to save lives, stressing that, wearing crash helmet protect the head from injuring when an accident occurs.

The MCE for Sagnarigu noted with regret that, though there are laws binding on motor riders to wear crash helmet however many riders violate that law with impunity.

She urged the Road Safety Commission, MTTU and DVLA to continue their collaborative efforts in educating the general public about the use of the road.

Hon Mariam said this when she visited victims of the gory accident at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) that claimed 20 lives and 50 people injured.

The gory accident involving three buses occurs on the Tamale-Buipe highway at Yapei-Yipala in the earlier hours Sunday 15th April 2018.

The MCE for Sagnarigu said, she was saddened by the fatal accident and urged that something must be done to curtail such accidents in future.

“The only way we can reduce this kind of accidents is to obey our roads signs and traffic regulations…. You have to be very patient when driving or using the road”. She emphasized

She noted that most of these fatal roads accidents are avoidable, “but because we don’t take road precautions seriously that’s why we are dying through roads accidents”.

Hon Mariam who boosts the morale of the victims urged them to be patient as they are in good hands of the nurses and doctors at the TTH.

The Sagnarigu MCE on behalf of the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly presented some beverages including one carton of Milo, two cartons of Milk and two cartons of Malta to the victims and nurses of the hospital.

Hon Mariam also promises to pay part of the medical bills of the accident victims and urged the hospital to seek assistance from other MMCEs and philanthropists to enable them to continue their altruistic practices.

She, therefore, thanked the Doctors and Nurses of TTH especially those at the emergency ward for their selfless service in saving lives at the facility. “For the good job you are doing here, you reward is in heaven”.
