Tactical eliminations rock NPP vetting in Central Region

Tension mounts as vetting begins for constituency executive aspirants in the central region Tension mounts as vetting begins for constituency executive aspirants in the central region

Tension is mounting in the Central Region NPP as the party’s vetting committee begins vetting of all constituency executive aspirants in the region.

The ostensive tension follows allegations making the rounds that an evil plan has been hatched to disqualify some aspirants through elimination by “rough tactics”.

Some staunch members who have served the party in various capacities in the past with their strength and resources and want to serve their respective constituencies as executives, have alleged that some people were planning to disqualify them.

They further alleged that the said plot has been devised by some individuals who are hopeful for regional executive positions in the party.

Some of the aspirants who poured out their frustrations to this reporter lamented that they have been penciled to be disqualified during the vetting because they have spoken against certain ills in the party.

“It is highly unfortunate that whenever we get to power people emerged from nowhere and try to impose their authorities on us. Where were they when we were in the wilderness and struggling to win power?”. A furious aspirant queried.

Another posited; “if you are a regional executive and desires to contest again or you are aspiring to be one, why should you decide for all constituencies by selecting your favourites to win”?

An aspirant who spoke to this reporter and pleaded anonymity alleged that names of certain individuals have been mentioned at a particular high powered meeting held in the region recently.

Snippets of information available to this reporter revealed that at the said meeting, names of some serving constituency executives were mentioned as those who could not pass the test.

Several accusing fingers have been pointed at the incumbent Regional Chairman, Mr Robert Kutin Junior as being behind the plot to eliminate some aspirants by “hook or crook”.

However, Mr Kutin has rubbished the allegation claiming they are unfounded.

Speaking to this reporter in a telephone interview, Chairman Kutin stated that he had no business to ensure that some aspirants were eliminated during the vetting.

According to Mr Kutin, there are guidelines governing the conduct of the vetting and the vetting committee would go strictly according to those guidelines.

In the view of Mr Kutin, all those who are crying foul are being hunted by their own shadows because they deserted the party and joined the campaign of their main opponent in the run-up to the 2016 elections in some constituencies in the region.

“They joined the camp of our opponent and since 2015 they have not participated in any party activity not even constituency meetings and they call themselves organisers?”. He asked.

Kutin opined that those who are making the allegations are not going to contest his position as Regional Chairman and therefore he could habour any evil intentions against them.

Last month, the Central Regional NPP successfully held elections to elect Polling Station Executives and Electoral Area Coordinators.

Positions for Constituency Executive elections have been slated for this month which would be followed by Regional Executives Elections in April.
