TWO ACCOUNTANTS HELD FOR EMBEZZLING ?40.8 MILLION

Two Accounting personnel of the Ahafo Ano South District Assembly of Ashanti have been accused by the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council for allegedly embezzling an amount of ?40.8 million belonging to the Assembly. One of the suspects, Emmanuel Botcwey, has been apprehended and has refunded ?15 million out of the amount while the other suspect, Boakye Yiadom, is on the run. The District Chief Executive, Mr.. K.B. Asomaning, disclosed this at the second ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Mankranso. He urged members of the Assembly to be on their guard to help check waste and embezzlement of funds that are allocated to the District for development, Mr.. Asomaning announced that the Assembly has already received a total of ?217,673,000.00 out of its annual allocation of ?886 million which is its share of the District Assemblies Common Fund . He said the money will be used to renovate the Mankranso Police Station, the construction of an additional ward and a theatre for the Mankranso Health Centre. A three-bed room, semi-detached staff quarters will also be constructed to provide accommodation for staff of the Mankraso Health Centre, while another Health Centre will be constructed at Sabronum. He deplored the dismal performance of the Assembly in revenue collection. The MP for the area, Mr..Stephen Balado Manu appealed to the government to re-construct all roads in the district. He also appealed to parents to take the education of their children seriously to help secure a better future for them. End
