TUC is not toothless bulldog...Adu-Amankwah

Accra, April 19, GNA- Mr Kwasi Adu-Amankwah, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has said that the TUC is not a toothless bulldog because of its usual non-confrontational attitude in solving industrial differences normally brought about by government policies such as taxes which shot up petrol prices.

He said the TUC deals with structures such as the national unions which are represented at the TUC so all decisions must be passionately discussed and actions approved by them.

Mr Adu-Amankwah was reacting to some notions of unionists nation-wide at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the TUC in Accra. He said, the TUC top hierarchy cannot therefore, take unilateral decisions.

He said confrontation is not the best and it had been the policy of TUC to adopt dialogue at all times. Mr Amankwah commended TEWU under the leadership of Mr Dan Antwi, General Secretary of the union for its dynamism, adding, "that must translate into rekindling of other unions at all levels to enable them to be vibrant than before".
