TMA condemns Ossei Aidooh and refers him to Committee

Tema, Nov 11, GNA -- The Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) at its sitting on Tuesday condemned Mr Abraham Ossei-Aidooh, MP for Tema West, for ''spreading false information to tarnish the image of the assembly.''

At its previous second ordinary general meeting the assembly criticised the four MPs in Tema municipality for not attending assembly meetings but they were collecting their allowances.

They mentioned Mr Aidooh as the worst offender and based upon that he re-acted in the media and described the TMA as the most corrupt and incompetent assembly in the country and called for forensic audit report into its affairs.

The Assembly referred the matter to its the Public Relations and Complaints Committee for recommendations. During a lengthy debate, some of the assembly members suggested that the MP be summoned before the house to explain his comments that has cast a slur on the assembly.

Mr Albert Boakye Okyere, a government appointee, described Mr Aidooh's comments as irresponsible and serious indictment on the assembly.

A recorded version of Mr Aidooh's comments made on a local FM station was played.

"By what Mr Aidooh has said the house has been reduced to fresh milk. He is the most irresponsible MP.''

Mr Okyere said Mr Aidooh collected his sitting allowances until June 2002 when he ceased taking it.

Madam Beatrice Afiyie Ashong, MP for Kpone/Katamanso, pleaded with members to exercise restrain and to invite the MPs for a meeting to resolve the issue.
