TICO awards scholarships to 105 pupils, students

Aboadze (W/R) Dec.8,GNA-The Takoradi International Company (TICO) Kramer Scholarship Awards on Thursday presented scholarships packages to 105 Primary and Junior Secondary School pupils and students of Senior High Schools and tertiary institutions from the Shama District at Aboadze near Takoradi.

TICO also presented two sets of computers to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, three Yamaha motorbikes to the Shama District Directorate of Education and a four- wheel Pajero vehicle to the Shama Traditional Council at the 2011 Kramer Scholarship Awards Programme.

The programme was under the theme, “Sustaining Quality Education, the Need for Public/Private Partnership”.

In an address, Madam Emelia Arthur, Deputy Western Regional Minister, said the government would continuously provide a conducive working environment for industry to thrive.

She said the Government expects industry players to abide by the rulers and best practice standards acceptable all over the world.

Madam Arthur said respect for employees’ right and payment of employees’ social security will not be compromised.

She said untoward behaviour such as evasion of taxes with the connivance of tax officers or whoever, maltreatment and disrespect for employees, as have been the case in some circles, would never be condoned.

“I can assure that any investment in this country is safe because Ghana is a peaceful country and its people hospitable”, Madam Arthur said.

She advised the beneficiaries of the scholarship award to work to justify their selection and the confidence reposed in them.

Nana Osafo Adjei Kantaka, General Manager of TICO, said the scholarship awards scheme would be expanded to include postgraduate students.

He said the company would continue to pursue its Corporate Social Responsibility in its host communities.
