TEWU calls off industrial action

Accra, Sept. 27, GNA - The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called off its industrial action which members began on Monday, following the decision by the Labour Commission to intervene on behalf of the Union,

Accordingly, Mr Mohammadu Seidu Bogobiri, General Secretary of the Union, has urged its members to resume work immediately in the same high spirit they had always done to sustain the performance of their respective institutions.

The strike action which has been suspended until further notice, was in demand of the payment of 15 per cent Retention Premium which the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) agreed to pay after negotiations between TEWU and FWSC in May this year.

Mr Bogobiri who announced the suspension in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Tuesday, said the Labour Commission gave the undertaking at a meeting it held with the union over the week-end.

In this regard, Mr Bogobiri said, the Labour Commission had convened a meeting for tomorrow Wednesday, September 28, 2011, to be attended by the FWSC, Ghana Education Service (GES) and TEWU.

He said members would be informed of the outcome of the meeting.
