Tension is mounting at the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) following the sudden death of Zachariah Issah Denjuma, a 28-year-old Assistant Manager of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Department of the TDC.
The deceased, popularly called Zack, was said to have been poisoned by a colleague.
Gabriel Afeku aka Gabby, who allegedly moved to the drinking bar alongside Zack, has been granted police enquiry bail while investigations continue.
Zack, who recently graduated from the Data Link University College and was on the verge of being promoted to head the said department, reportedly drunk an alcoholic beverage at a drinking spot, but immediately complained of pains in his throat.
He allegedly requested for water but soon after vomited blood.
Zack was rushed to the Narh-Bita Hospital at Community Four, Tema, but died few minutes on admission before the body was sent to the Tema General Hospital morgue.
However, the authorities at the hospital, upon hearing of the information, rejected the corpse and directed that it should be sent to Police Hospital morgue in Accra, where an autopsy was carried out.
Chief Superintendent Victor Amedeker, Tema Community One Police Commander, confirmed the incident which occurred on November 22 at about 11:20 pm.
He told Daily Guide that the police had launched an investigation into the case to ascertain the cause of death.
According to him, “Samples have been sent to the Ghana Standards Authority for testing which will help police in further investigations.”
A relation of the deceased told Daily Guide that “we were sleeping at about 11pm that fateful day when Gabby came to the house and told us that he was in his house at Dawhenya, near Tema, when Zack called him to come and send him to hospital because he was intoxicated.
“But earlier, Gabby came to our house with my brother and together they went to a nearby drinking spot where they spent some time before moving to another drinking spot at Community 7 where I suspect he was poisoned.
“Gabby assured us our brother was in stable condition at the hospital only that he was intoxicated and he left. We rushed to the hospital only to see our brother dead on a hospital bed.
According to the relation, doctors who attended to the deceased confirmed to the family that he was poisoned and therefore a complaint was lodged at the police station.
