TAJ chicken is wholesome- GSB

Tema, Jan 7, GNA- The Ghana Standard Board (GSB) has declared that the consignment of frozen Spanish chicken seized from the TAJJ Investment Limited at Tema is wholesome.

This was contained in a report signed by Mrs Kistina Bintson, Director of the Chemical Science Division of the GSB issued on Wednesday. ''Analysis conducted showed that the Eurobic Plate Count and Scaphy Lococcus Aureus count of all the samples submitted meet the requirement of GS 91 specification for dressed chilled and frozen poultry.'' The report added that ''falmoned was not detected in sample submitted for analysis; the odour and visual examination of the samples are characteristics of frozen chicken."

The report added ''the sample submitted are wholesome and fit for human consumption.''

On December 22, 2003, a hotelier at Tema, Mrs Elizabeth Panford made a report that two cartons of chicken bought from the TAJJ were rotten.

The Tema Port Health and Food and Drugs Board (FDB) seized all the 6,990 cartons of the chicken for testing and placed embargo on the sale of the consignment until the outcome of investigations.
