Swedruhene condemns tribal discrimination in Agona West

Nana Ogidigram Asiedu Kobina Botwe the Second, Chief of Agona Swedru, has condemned people who preach tribal discrimination against others living in the Agona West Municipality.

He cautioned people who were going round campaigning that some people were strangers in the area to stop, because anyone caught would not be spared.

Nana Botwe who is also the Adontenhene of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, sounded the warning at the launch of the 2015 Swedru Akwambo Festival of the Chiefs and people at Agona Swedru.

He disclosed that the festival would take from on 9th to 16th of August, with a week-long activities, including the clearing of path, and the exhibition of the cultural heritage of the founders of Agona Swedru in 18th century.

According to him, the activities would be climaxed with a durbar on Saturday, August 16, at the Main Lorry Park, to be addressed by President John Mahama and some Ministers of State.

The Swedruhene cautioned the youth to desist from acts that would undermine the peaceful celebration of the festival.

Nana Oduro Kwarteng, Ggyantuahene of Agona Swedru, urged the people to contribute their quota towards the development of the town, reminding them that the Chiefs alone could not shoulder the responsibilty of developing the town.

A 13-member Planning Committee for the Akwambo has been inaugurated with Nana Atta Boateng, Abusuapanyin of the Swedruhene as Chairman, with Nana Ogyabea Badu Ehuren, Sanaahene of the town, as Secretary.

Nana Ehuren pledged the committee's determination to ensure a successful celebration, and made passionate appeal to Advertising Companies, corporate bodies and well-meaning individuals to support the planning committee.

The last Swedru Akwambo was celebrated in 2012.
