Luck eluded, Peter Ackon, a 25-year-old suspected thief when he fell into a well while attempting to dismantle and take away a mechanised pump attached to a borehole near Adietemu.

Narrating the story to the Ghana News Agency, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Adiku, Western Regional Police PRO said at about 0400 hours on Monday, Mr. Adomako Ansah of House number 144 Namibia-Anaji, a suburb of Takoradi accompanied by Michael Newton reported to the police that at about 0300 hours he heard someone screaming for help under his culvert well and suspected him to be a thief.

She said the police on receipt of the complaint went to the neighbourhood with a team of Fire service personnel only to find the suspect trapped in the said well.

The PRO said the police and the Ghana National fire service personnel spent several hours before rescuing the suspect who had become unconscious.

She said the suspect was taken to the kwesimintsim Government Hospital where he was treated and discharged and later placed in police custody pending further investigations.
