Suspected Legon rapist arrested

The suspect in the reported rape case involving a foreign student of the University of Ghana on May 24, in the University's Botanical Gardens has been apprehended by the Security Agencies.

The Bureau of National Investigation effected the arrest, following an intensive investigation. A statement issued by the University of Ghana, said the alleged rapist was arrested in the Bolgatanga/Navrongo district of the Upper East Region. According to the statement, investigations have also revealed that, the suspect is the same person who raped a student at the Akuafo Hall last year and also attempted stabbing a female student of the Volta Hall in 1998. The statement assured all concerned that, adequate steps would continue to be taken to ensure the safety of all persons on the Campus. On May 24, this year, an American female student who was on an exchange program was allegedly raped at the Legon Botanical gardens when she went for a walk unaccompanied. The student, whose name was not given, has since left the country after her horrifying experience
