Suspect rapist says he is impotent

Asamankese, March 20, GNA -- A 45-year-old farmer, arraigned at the Asamankese Circuit Court and charged with defiling a 12-year-old girl told the court that the charge was false since he was impotent.

"Send me to hospital for a test to see if am capable of having sex because for some time now, i have lost may manhood," Joe Okine told the hushed court. The judge, MR S. S. Appiah then asked the accused, "what should i do to you if it is proved by a doctor that you are active and virile."

Okine replied, "Anything you please." Inspector Osei Owusu had told the court that Okine who lives at Amanhia, near Suhum, took the 12-year-old girl as a lover and had affair with her thrice in two months.

On the first two occasions, the victim fell sick and was sent to hospital for treatment but she did not disclosed the fact that she had been defiles. On February 12, which was the third time Okine had defiled her, she became so ill that she had to spill the beans and Okine was arrested.

According to the prosecution, a medical report showed that the girl had been defiled. Okine denied the charged and told the court that eight months earlier he fell sick and became impotent and could not therefore have defiled the girl.
