Supreme Court orders release of Opuni’s accounts

A five-member panel of the Supreme Court has ordered for the release of the accounts of embattled former CEO of COCOBOD Dr Stephen Opuni.

The court presided over by Justice Jones Dotse on Tuesday ordered the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to defreeze the accounts.

It will be recalled that an Accra High court dismissed an application by Dr Opuni to have his bank account defrozen in May after EOCO wrote to the banks not to allow Mr. Opuni access to his money a day after a court ordered the release.

The banks involved are Standard Chartered Bank and the Opeibea House branch of Ecobank.

The Economic and Organised Crimes Office has been investigating him since he was axed from the office when President Akufo-Addo took office.

He and businessman Seidu Agongo are facing charges for alleged financial malfeasance in the execution of some contracts at COCOBOD.

They have been granted self-recognizance bail in the sum of GHc300, 000 each.
