Sunyani to be given facelift

The central business area of Sunyani, the Brong Ahafo Regional capital, is to be given a facelift under a programme initiated by the Sunyani District Assembly.

Under the programme, all the assembly’s 15 bungalows adjacent the Coronation Park are being demolished and the plots sold to people and companies that are ready to put up at least three story buildings to be used mainly as shopping centres.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Ignatius Baffour Awuah, stated this in an interview when he conducted the Graphic round the area.

He noted that Sunyani is growing fast into a metropolis and there is the need for the assembly to work hard to meet the challenges facing the town.

He said a number of the plots in the area have already been sold and construction work is progressing on one of the new structures being put up.

He said the workers who were occupying the demolished bungalows have been relocated by the assembly.

Mr Baffour-Awuah also expressed concern about the deplorable state of schoolbuildings in the district.

Consequently , he said , the assembly has approved the construction and rehabilitation of a number of school structures.

Among the projects are the construction of a three-classroom block at Abesim SDA Primary, office and store for the Sunyani Secondary School, and the construction of a six-classroom block for the Nsoatre RC Primary.

The DCE stated that education holds the key to the development of the district, so every effort would be made to improve the system.

He promised that with the co-operation of the assembly members and the people of the district, his administration will pursue the district’s development process with all seriousness.
