Mr Kwasi Oppong-Ababio, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, on Friday cut the sod for work to commence on an ultra-modern maternity block at the Sunyani Municipal Hospital.

Construction works on the project, estimated at GH¢500,000.00 to be executed by NEK Construction Limited, a Sunyani-based building construction firm, is scheduled for completion within eight months.

Mr Oppong-Ababio explained that the Government deserved additional four years to be able to complete the numerous on-going projects in the municipality.

He pointed out that it would not augur well for the citizens if the electorate failed to renew the mandate of the National Democratic Congress as those on-going projects could be abandoned if there was a change in government.

Mr Oppong-Ababio, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Sunyani East Constituency, explained that the Sunyani Municipality and the Brong Ahafo Region in general had benefited from numerous development projects under the NDC Government.

He said seven health training schools had been established in the region within three years, adding that the education, road and agricultural sectors had also witnessed significant progress.

Mr Oppong-Ababio appealed to the electorate to vote for him and President John Dramani Mahama to ensure continuous economic growth and development.

Dr Mrs Paulina Appiah, the Sunyani Municipal Director of Health Services, in a speech read on her behalf, said the municipality had not recorded any maternal death for six consecutive years now.

She commended the Municipal Assembly for its continuous support to equip the hospital to deliver quality healthcare services to residents.
