Summary Of Phone-Ins

GOLD FM PHONE-INS

? The NPP government has failed Ghanaians by creating economic hardships for the people. Money is spent on things that do not benefit the people, except those in government.

? President Kufuor’s one-man show in governance has cost the country a lot and brought the NPP government into disrepute. The TOR-SAHARA deal, the Presidential Jet, NHIS, and the repatriation deal with the US have proved that the NPP government is incompetent.

? For gun shots to be heard at an NPP election shows how intolerant they are. What would have happened if it were a general election with other parties participating. President Kufuor should control his men.

? If the NPP government does not re-instate the Criminal Libel Law, it will be digging its own grave. All allegations made against serving ministers on which the President has refused to take action will be used to jail them.

CHOICE FM PHONE-INS

? Vice President Aliu Mahama’s call for an end to child trafficking is in the right direction. Child trafficking is a modified form of slavery, so the security agencies, especially those on our borders, should be vigilant on suspected traffickers.

? The government should enact a law to be passed by parliament to punish child traffickers. Some of these innocent children have died through maltreatment in neighbouring countries.

? Parents who neglect or sell their children for monetary gain should be prosecuted in the courts, as child trafficking is on the ascendancy. The Department of Social Welfare, whose responsibility it is to deal with the issue, is not performing, so its role should be re-defined.

? Editors of newspapers, especially the private ones, should take a serious look at the former Speaker of Parliament, Justice D.F. Annan’s call for objective reportage in respect of the forthcoming 2004 elections. The media has always used their newspapers to fuel political crises.

? The state has a greater role to play in respect of street children, who are later sold to neighbouring countries as slaves. Parents must be equally responsible for their own children.

PEACE FM PHONE-INS

? Ex-President Rawlings is not at the forefront of the NDC campaign. Prof. Mills as the flagbearer of the party is at the forefront. Speculation going on in other circles on this issue is totally false.

? The law, Causing Financial Loss to the State, was in existence even during the NDC regime, but the then government could not use the law to punish its corrupt ministers but rather defended them and allowed them to go free with their booty.

? The NPP government should not be accused of using the law on causing financial loss to try corrupt NDC ministers. If in future certain NPP ministers are audited and found to be corrupt, the same law will be used against them.

? It is surprising to hear that Ghana has signed an agreement with the US for just $4 million. Instead of the government finding means to harness our natural resources, it has gone in for such an agreement that would not benefit Ghana.

? Most of the problems Ghanaians are going through are our own making. Every Ghanaian seems religious, but we don’t allow our religious morals to guide us. Everyone has gone contrary to God’s teaching and this has caused our problems.

? I don’t agree with Sam Jonah’s call to revisit the law on causing financial loss to the state. Since others have suffered under the law, it should be allowed to stay, because NPP ministers will also go to jail under the same law.

? If President Kufuor and his NPP are pro-US, they should not sell our birthright because Ghana is for all of us and not the NPP alone.

? Whom did the NDC think the law on causing financial loss to the state would be used against after they had passed it? Because of massive corruption during the NDC regime, they rested the law under the carpet for Ibrahim Adam and others to embezzle state funds.

? If the NPP government had signed the agreement with the US without any financial gain, I wouldn’t have any problem with the deal. But for us to do it for a meagre $4 million is an insult to our sovereignty.

? The man who used insulting language against the President in Kumasi should not have been released from police custody to serve as a deterrent to other indisciplined citizens.

ADOM FM PHONE-INS

? The NDC should accept the responsibility for the present state of the economy. Corruption and the inability of ex-President Rawlings to prosecute his corrupt officials and ministers are the cause of the rampant corruption in the system.

? Sam Jonah has no business calling for the withdrawal of the law “Causing Financial Loss to the State” because those who are put in positions of trust should know that it is their responsibility to protect state property and funds.

? It was wrong for Baba Jamal to say that Baby Ansaba has taken sides in support of the NPP government. Does Jamal know the stand of Jojo Bruce Quansah? He should not judge blindly.

? Some editors and journalists are losing the people’s trust and confidence, because of their false publications about certain personalities they oppose. Irrespective of one’s political stand, let us publish the truth.

? All Ghanaians should know that we voted President Kufuor to power and whether we vote for or against him, it was the majority that spoke. Let us therefore respect him as the only father of the nation during his term in office, because he will not be president forever.
