Suicide should never be an option - NUGS to Ghanaian students

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has advised students to never consider suicide as an option when they are confronted with academic challenges.

This advice comes at a time a final year student of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa Campus allegedly committed suicide over poor examination results.

Enoch Akondor, a BSC Development Planning major, reportedly took his own life after failing in a number of courses.

He allegedly committed suicide at his hostel room Saturday night by drinking a poisonous substance when he realised he may not be able to graduate due to his poor performance.

Reacting to this, NUGS expressed their condolences to the bereaved families of the UDS student and the KNUST student who died in a fire outbreak.

OUR CONDOLENCES TO THE BEREAVED FAMILIES AND INSTITUTIONS

The National Union of Ghana Students received the news of the unfortunate demise of two Ghanaian students; Emmanuel Akandor and De-Graft Acheampong of University of Development Studies, Wa (UDS) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) respectively with great shock and sorrow.

Akandor died through an alleged suicide yesterday whiles De-Graft through an unfortunate fire outbreak that happened in KO Methodist bookshop area, Kumasi yesterday, 27/01/19 around 10:30am.

The leadership of the Union advice students that, regardless of the endeavor or issue you are confronted with, SUICIDE SHOULD NEVER BE AN OPTION.

There are more opportunities to hold on to in the times of struggles.
Our heartfelt condolences to the families and institutions of the deceased. They contributed their quota in the Students struggle and we do appreciate them a lot on behalf of all Ghanaian students.
With our deepest sympathy and condolence, we grieve together with the affected families and institutions.
