Suhuyini jabs Nitiwul over Abuakwa North Assembly inauguration fiasco comments

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North Constituency, Alhaji Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini has taken on Minister for Defense, Dominic Nitiwul over recent comments he made at Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region after a failed attempt to inaugurate the newly elevated assembly.

Mr Nitiwul was supposed to represent the President in inaugurating the newly elevated Municipality in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s hometown only to arrive at the area and be told some aggrieved persons had sought an interlocutory injunction restraining the exercise.

The Minister was reported to have lost his cool and in the process, said the residents of the area were disgracing the first gentleman of the land who hails from the area wondering why that should be the case.

“…You have struggled since 1957, and if the almighty God and the people of Ghana and blessings of the almighty God have blessed you with your son as President, all you can do is to help him succeed and not pull him down. We are inaugurating all district assemblies [nationwide] and only in the president’s hometown, somebody had decided to take the matter to court. Who do you think you are disgracing? Not the president, you are disgracing yourselves,” he fumed.

“The reason why today we will not inaugurate the Assembly is because some people have decided to put an injunction on this inauguration today. I’m just telling you that the Assembly has been created in capital names and unless we send another L.I. to Parliament the matter is closed. So if some people decide to take the matter to court to say we should not inaugurate the Assembly, yes, we will not inaugurate it.” A livid Nitiwul was quoted as saying before leaving the town.

But likening his comments to a similar conduct exhibited towards former President John Mahama, the lawmaker said he is struggling to forget what was said by the minister and the more he struggled the more he recalls the exact what exactly was said.

He asked if many like Nitiwul who thought they were disgracing the John Mahama while he was president were rather embarrassing themselves.

“Please forgive me, but the more I try to forget the above quote the more I recall it.

Hmmmmm, so how many of you like Nitiwul thought you were disgracing John Mahama the President? According to Defense Minister you were disgracing yourselves.''
