The Ghana Education Service (GES) has been called upon to strengthen policies safeguarding students against being made to perform domestic duties for school authorities, following allegations of sexual abuse at Obuasi Senior High School.
Nana Yaa Amponsah Frimpong condemned the alleged practice of making students perform duties that should not be imposed on them, insisting that students are sent to school to receive an education, not to serve as domestic workers.
“If you want someone to cook for you, bring your wife or sister to do it, not the students. They were not brought there to school to serve as servants,” the former NPP U.S. Chairperson stated on Oyerepa Radio, monitored by MyNewsGh.com
She stressed that society should not tolerate such practices, calling for measures to protect students and uphold their dignity in educational institutions.
“This should not happen in this day and age. That should not happen,” she stated.
Nana Yaa further urged the GES to introduce clear policies if adequate safeguards were not already in place, emphasising that protective measures should cover both male and female students.
“If GES does not have policies around this, they should quickly do something about it to safeguard both male and female students,” she said.
