Student jailed for defilement

The Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Fredrick Tetteh, has sentenced a student, who defiled a five-year-old girl, to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour.

Opuni Frimpong, 25, told the court that he has deeply fallen in love with the victim. He was however convicted on his own plea.

Police Detective Inspector Thomas Obour, said the victim on the day of the incident attended church service with the complainant , who is a tutor at Agogo Presbyterian Nurses Training College on September 21 at the Asante-Akim North District.

The convict was among the congregation at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. The prosecution said in the course of the worship, the tutor, noticed that the victim was missing and became anxious.

Later, the little girl was seen coming from the washroom, crying and asked what was wrong with her, she told the complainant that the convict had defiled her.

Police Inspector Obuor said all efforts to locate her attacker was unsuccessful and a formal report was made to the police.

Frimpong was however tracked and arrested. Doctors, who treated the girl in a report, confirmed that she was defiled.
