Student, 18, Stabbed to Death

An 18 year-old male student of the Awudome Secondary School near Ho, was stabbed to death during a "Leavers Night" dance at the "Pleasure Gardens" at Ho at in the early hours of Sunday.

Police are withholding his name until they contact his parents.

No arrests have been made and the body has been deposited at the Volta Regional Hospital at Ho.

A student, (name withheld), who told the police that he was a friend of the victim said his friend was engaged in a fight with a group of boys but he could not tell the cause. According to the friend when he (friend) intervened and tried to pull the victim away he himself was hit with a bottle from behind.

Mr Mawutor Goh, Ho district Chief Executive (DCE) told the Ghana News Agency that last year he instructed that no permit should be issued for such students' dances.

He said he was therefore surprised that such an event should take place again this year, especially when there was no police presence during the event.

Mr Goh said further investigations would be conducted into the circumstances leading to the issue of permit for the dance if any.
