The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation has appealed to the public to desist from sharing graphic images and videos of the victims involved in Wednesday’s military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

In an SMS alert issued on August 6, 2025, the ministry stated, “We have become aware of videos and photos circulating on social media of a helicopter crash and the burning bodies of some victims.

"We ask that out of respect to the individuals involved, circulation of these videos and photos should stop immediately and all copies deleted. We count on your co-operation. Our prayers are with the families and friends of those impacted – MoCDTI.”

The Ghana Armed Forces has since confirmed that all eight persons on board the helicopter perished in the crash.

Among the victims were the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Murtala Mohammed.

Also killed were Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, former Member of Parliament Samuel Aboagye, and Vice Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Sarpong.

The crew members who died have been identified as Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

President John Dramani Mahama has directed that national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased.

The victims were travelling aboard a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter on a national assignment to Obuasi when the aircraft lost contact with radar shortly after takeoff.

Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene following the crash.

Graphic footage from the site captured the charred remains of several victims, prompting national concern and the appeal for public restraint in sharing such content.
