Stop robbing accident victims- MTTU

Nsawam (E/R), Oct. 14, GNA - The head of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police at Nsawam, Chief Inspector James Karbo Domah, has warned people residing along the main Nsawam-Suhum road who steal the properties of accident victims to desist from such practice.

Chief Inspector Domah who sounded the warning in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Monday said anyone caught would be dealt with severely to deter others.

He said accident victims sometimes embarrass the police by demanding their properties when they recover without knowing that they were rescued by the inhabitants before the police could arrive at the scene.

Chief Inspector Domah who mentioned accident prone areas like Pampamso Number One, Obregyema, Teacher Mante, Asuboi and Mankron, advised drivers to be careful on reaching these areas.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Accra-Suhum Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Mr Gibrine Teye, confirmed the MTTU chief's assertion and said some passengers and villagers engage in such practice.

He said the union has warned drivers to hand over properties of accident victims to the police. Mr Teye asked all commercial drivers to observe road signs to avert accidents and be more careful, especially during the impending Christmas season.
